Honda Tuning Magazine always details a project car in house for their tech articles and for 2014 they have rolled out Project DB2, a 1992 Acura Integra GSR for assembly. The 92-93 GSR is unique to the Honda/Acura lineup because it is the 1st vehicle stateside to house a Dual Overhead Cam (Dohc) Vtec engine. The 1.7 liter which was in the GSR was exclusive to North America, along with a few other parts of the car, making it a classic among enthusiast. Matt Rodriquez, Editor, was excited to jump into this project. Vibrant Performance was proud to get on board of the build supplying Fabrication components to aid in the turbocharging of this historic Acura.

On February 14th Hennessey set a new record for Worlds Fastest 2-seat Sports Car with a blistering 270.49 mph with their Venom GT at Kennedy Space Center. The Space Shuttle landing strip was utilized for is length and it gave the car ample speed for acceleration and shut down. The power-plant, a 7-liter Twin Turbo v8, still looks to be accelerating when they cut it.

What you see in the video is sadly not accepted as a Guinness book record because there were not 2 runs. Hennessey speaks of how difficult it was to get inside of NASA grounds for this run, and it was not up to them not to run a second pass. Hennessey also does not consider themselves in direct competition with Bugatti Volkswagen so this is no problem. That unofficial 270mph on video is far good enough for the masses.

This week, we had entries featuring Industrial, Exhaust Headers, Race Radiators, and Exhaust Systems. We tried to focus on complete parts rather than 1-10″ sections of welding. Let us introduce you to the Mark One, the newest 3D printer on the block for all of you Fab-Tech nerds, like us! The Mark One is the worlds 1^st printer to hit the market to print Carbon Fiber. When we saw initially we screamed aloud “Take my money now!” This small package packs a punch, and could revolutionize how we think of and use Carbon Fiber, while expanding where the material is used.

Carbon fiber is used in almost every field of racing today, along with many applications in both oem and aftermarket platforms. It’s strength can be over 5-10 times the strength of ABS plastics, and have a higher strength-to-weight ratio than machined aluminum. This makes carbon fiber very sought after for a number of reasons- safety, weight, and durability being at the top of the list.

Tig’d Up Tuesday is that day when our Fan Page goes crazy. We get messages right and left and we post tons of work people send in. There is no method to our madness on this day, no strategy, no timing structure, and no perfect weld to send. Some days we will only post the best work, and some days we will pick 1-3 photos which need critique, or in which a welder needs advice, and we will post them for the crowd. What we mean basically is we have no exact process for Tig’d Up Tuesday.

We also have a new “How-To” post for those of you looking for better weld prep techniques. This post has gained strong attention.

Recent conversation has prompted the topic of “Prep is everything” around here at Fabrication Life.  This is a rule, a token of wisdom that should help anyone produce higher quality welds and finished products.  Seriously, why should the end product of fabrication get all of the attention in the process?  We hope this will open our readers minds to the importance of quality prep-work in the grand scheme of fabrication.  It is one of the most important moments in the process and one that it often times overlooked – leaving the work much to be desired.
