Fabrication Basics: Jay Thornton’s tips

Posted on 1

Guest article on Motivicty’s MOTOBLOG, first in a series from Jay Thornton, custom fabrication expert and technical lead at Vibrant Performance.

I spend a lot of time working with up-and-coming custom metal fabricators and it’s one of the coolest parts of my job at Vibrant. I get to see a lot of new, creative ways of doing things and meet new people who bring a whole new perspective to the craft. I also see this as an important part in the art of fabrication: helping the next generation learn a craft that is constantly changing and innovating. Continue reading

D3 Performance Engineering GT500 Project

gt500

This 2010 Ford GT500 was brought to us by its owner Dai Nguyen, it already had the supercharger deleted and was running an off the shelf twin turbo kit, but he was displeased with the fact it ran the stock manifolds, placed the turbos under the engine close to the ground, and wouldn’t allow him to run a auto trans in the future. His request was he wanted a top notch turbo system that placed the Precision 6466 turbos up front, was capable of 1400whp if he wanted to go that high, had AC and power steering and the rest he left up to us. Hello Fabrication Fans! Welcome to the second install of the B.R.E Motorsports Time Attack S14 build. This post goes more in depth with the entire build up of this one of a kind S14. Showcasing the amount of hours spent on the fabrication. Down to every detail displays the sheer artwork implemented into this vehicle. I hope you enjoy this creation as much as i do!

The S-Chassis has been placed on a rotisserie to ensure clean welds throughout the vehicle. It makes the task much easier to get into those tough to reach areas. A fully stitch welded chassis makes for a super rigid chassis, which is crucial for race cars.

The Team at B.R.E Motorsports are very well rounded with experience and craftsmanship.

Mad Max Silvia

While meeting up at a friend’s shop, i came across this interesting S13 Coupe. The color of the car threw me off a bit, and i was interested to know what was done to it. When they say don’t judge a book by it’s cover, this car was the epiphany of the saying. Check out this cool hook slider!

On the outside, it looks like your typical “drift” style 240sx

Until i walked around the car, i knew i was in for a treat!

This would come in handy at the track! I would use an air compressor, cut off blade, and battery charger on this.
