2015 World Cup Finals – Import vs. Domestic

On the first weekend of November 2015, the Vibrant team visited Maryland International Raceway to attend the 20th Annual Import vs. Domestic World Cup Finals. This event always brings a big crowd due to several reasons. Firstly, November brings cool weather in the north east, ideal weather conditions for turbocharged vehicles. Secondly, Maryland International Raceway is known for having state of the art race track prep; for example, every few passes the track officials make their rounds cleaning the track of debris, laying down glue, and drying the track with torches or a jet powered dryer. Lastly, this is known as the last big event of the season and drivers and race teams bring everything they have been testing to the table, breaking world records as well as personal bests. While Thursday and Friday’s weather were ideal, mother nature dropped a rain storm on Saturday leaving an entirely washed out track and thus locking the qualifying grid from the previous days. This created tension amongst the drivers, and made for a more competitive event on Sunday, with back-to-back racing from 10am to 1am Monday morning. The Vibrant team is always happy to see some old faces, but equally excited to meet some of the new drivers and teams in the hunt for a win!
